On Stage, In the Studio, and Beyond.
Nya Angel is a Baltimore City-based violinist whose passion lies in creating authentic connections through music. Whether performing for audiences or collaborating with fellow artists, she strives to make classical music accessible and meaningful to all. She is especially committed to increasing representation within the classical music world and expanding the space for diverse voices.
In parallel with her performance work, Nya is equally passionate about music education. She draws inspiration from the mentorship of her teachers Elizabeth Faidley and Qing Li, whose guidance has profoundly shaped her approach to music-making and pedagogy. Their influence continues to inform her commitment to fostering growth, curiosity, confidence, and individuality in young musicians. She has taught and coached students through a range of youth music programs, including Allegro Strings and BSO OrchKids, where she led group classes, sectional rehearsals, and ensemble coaching. Her teaching reflects a commitment to fostering artistic growth and belonging, which are values she carries from her artistic journey into every learning space she enters.
Nya has performed widely across the East Coast, with solo and ensemble appearances at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, and the George Peabody Library. Recent engagements include performances for the 2024 NEHHS EBSCC Meeting at Johns Hopkins and live music for professional events, receptions, and community programs.
She has participated in masterclasses with esteemed artists, including Rachel Barton Pine, Ray Chen, Carolin Widmann, Lisa Batiashvili, Xiang Gao, and Sibbi Bernhardsson. In addition to her solo work, Nya is an avid chamber musician and recently performed in a chamber music masterclass with the Del Sol Quartet.
Nya recently earned her Master of Music in Violin Performance and Pedagogy and Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, where she studied under the mentorship of violinist Qing Li. Her training focused on solo, chamber, and orchestral performance, as well as teaching and community engagement.
